A new guest in our garden!

Our garden has recently welcomed an addition - 'Max'.

Max is a leopard tortise which one of the workers on the property recently found and no-one else on the property wanted to include in their garden areas so we said we would.  (Although we have decided to let him roam in the area of our garden that actually is not totally cut off from the bush so if he wants to hang around he can, or if he wants to go back to the bush he can, or if he wants to have a bit of both, he can do that too.  But even if he decides to head back into the bush fully and we don't see him again, we have enjoyed the time he has been part of our garden.

Max, is a very quiet type of creature who doesn't keep us awake barking, doesn't strop his claws on furniture, doesn't shed fur and doesn't make a mess or even dig holes!

He mostly just eats various types of grass and what we would call weeds. His favourite foods seem to be 'weeping dew' and 'portuluca', although he seems to like hibiscus leaves as well!
He spends most of his day just tucked up inside his own house sleeping in some protected spot.

This little creature apparently can live up to 100 years so could still be around long after I have departed this earth.

I look at him and wonder what his purpose is in the eco-system of things that God created - except that its just to express God's joy in giving His earth variety as an expression of His creativity, and therefore blessing us with the joy of enjoying his creatures.

.....for now, Max, is a reminder to me of God's awesomness in the way this sweet little creature is made and functions....maybe God will have more lessons for life for me from Max, down the track!
