When Desert Tracks Became Raging Torrents in our Village

Last Thursday we got a downpour!  45mm in 45mins in fact!

We have had a lot of rain in the past weeks (which has been wonderful) so the ground is already quite wet.

So this wild storm had an impact!

Our garden got swamped with sand, that also got washed into the plunge pool, as the water came barrelling down the hill.

But my hubby was out in it and found himself caught in the middle of flash-flooding - on a village sand-road that became a raging river!  He was dropping a guy back at his farm nearby after doing some odd jobs, when they were suddenly in the midst of swirling water and waves coming down the road!  It was certainly a time to be thankful for a 4x4 with high clearance and that they were kept safe and not washed away, but it still did some damage to the car.

The guy he was giving a lift home to, said he hadn't seen water like this since the big floods of 2000!

Here are a few photos to tell some of the story.  The last photo is one of a 'wave' coming down the road in front of the car!  I'm told that these don't tell even half the story!….it was only what he managed to capture on his phone at a couple of points!
