A Few Reminders From Mr and Mrs Sparrow

Sometimes the ordinary things in life can give us quick little lessons or encouragements, and that was the case in the yard a couple of days ago when I watched two little Cape Sparrows on our boundary wall.

We had had some rain storms and many birds were out and about happily preening themselves, and among them were these... who I will call 'Mr and Mrs Sparrow'.

As they moved around the wall, and I snapped a few pics, it was interesting to see how they stayed ‘together’ side by side.
Reminded me of marriage and weathering storms together and coming out the other side still ‘together’, and that if God cares for sparrows, how much more he cares for us (Matt 10:29)

Even when one turned around and faced the other direction they still stayed ‘together’ -
Reminded me that in marriage we can be taking different perspectives on things or focusing on different issues, but still be together, supporting each other.

One of them (the male) was more busy preening himself after the rain and the female just sat quietly and waited as he stretched out his wings or fluffed his feathers to rid himself of excess water.
Reminded me that in marriage as one is busy or needy the other one can sometimes best help just by ‘being there’ and patiently waiting.

Sometimes they weren’t up as close to each other as other times, but they were still obviously very much ‘together’
Reminded me that there are always times in marriage where we have to give each other ‘space’, but yet we are still very much together in heart and our loyalty and love is still for our mate rather then flying off with the crowd.

This pic below was actually of the male still preening but with both their heads down it...
Reminded me that the key to a good marriage is…heads bowed in prayer toward God. Dependance on God and keeping him front and centre is more important than anything else.

Whatever one of them was doing, these two little birds just seemed so content and happy to just be together, side by side facing the world, with their Creator’s eye watching their every move.
Reminded me that, not least in pandemic years, we need not fear, because if our Creator cares for sparrows,
how much more does our Heavenly Father care and watch over us and our marriage, and our lives in general.
